My success with SCORE began 18 years ago when I was tested from them with the question, “if you go into business with your product who are your customers?” I’ve heard that before. Kind of like, which comes first, the chicken or the egg? Do people know my product enough to come to a store? Many years later after finding my customers and building upon those first words, I again went to SCORE after opening a new larger production facility, with retail and several more employees. My question this time was, “am I doing this right?” And “what do I look for to know?” This time, 3 incredible talents from SCORE looked over many details of my business. And I mean many. I put it all out there for their expertise to critique. They made me become accountable to every line item on the balance sheet. What is this, why is this? Learn it. Such an eye opener. With all of their business knowledge to guide me, my questions of ‘am I doing this right’ were answered. Over the past years of growing my business I’ve spent a fair share of money with those sitting in a pretty office professing to grow my business or show me how it’s done. I’d like to say I learned a lot, but, what I learned was to hold on to my money. Sitting in a recent SCORE meeting with a room full of talent made me realize SCORE is the most under-marketed and undersold, most valuable business tool anyone starting a business or growing a business has at their disposal. All you need to do is ask. I will continue to check in with that talented room of knowledge from time to time, just to make sure I’m still doing it right. A huge thank you to my wonderful support team at SCORE!
How SCORE helped.
